The collection of houses are nestled in The Black Valley on an extensive, privately owned upland farm including a glacial lake. They were some of the last homes in Ireland to be connected to the electricity grid in 1976, due to their remote location in one of Ireland’s most unspoiled valleys on the edge of The Killarney National Park. As a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, our farm and surrounding landscapes are recognised for their natural heritage, biodiversity and cultural significance. Here, surrounded by nature you will experience a hidden part of Ireland that still remains untouched by much of the modern world.
Historically known as ‘The City’, the original buildings date back to the early 1800's and have a rich and diverse history, providing a home and a safe haven for generations of families. Today, the cottages have been thoughtfully restored using quality local materials, preserving their traditional character while providing everything needed for a comfortable stay. The Sullivan family have been a part of this homestead’s history for almost a century and continue to live on the farm. We are nearby if you need local advice or assistance, while always respecting your privacy and allowing you the space to enjoy the peace and beauty of the valley.
Wander along The Kerry Way, one of Ireland’s longest and most famous walking trails. Or for more adventurous climbs, our unique location also provides fantastic access to The Reeks District. The vibrant towns of Killarney and Kenmare are within an hours drive and the Ring of Kerry, Beara and Dingle Penninsulas are ideal driving routes for a day trip.The journey to get you here will take you past some of the most inspiring scenery the County of Kerry and indeed Ireland has to offer.
